LMU Launches UPLIFT to Support Undergraduate Research Travel

Undergraduate Researchers

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) has launched the Undergraduate Presentations and Learning Initiatives Funding for Travel (UPLIFT) program to support undergraduate students attending academic research conferences. UPLIFT offers students stipends of up to $500 to help cover conference fees, hotel accommodations, transportation, and printing costs.

The program will award up to three students each quarter with preference given to students presenting their research.

"The UPLIFT program is designed to help students advance their academic and career goals," said Natalie Sweet, executive director of LMU’s Office of Research, Grants, and Sponsored Programs. "Part of academia is sharing discoveries, but students don’t always have the means to cover conference costs. We want to reward their hard work and dedication."

Sweet, who developed the program, drew from her experience as an LMU undergraduate researcher. She recalled the challenges of funding a trip to Nashville to present her research but noted that the opportunity boosted her graduate school and job applications. Sweet emphasized that LMU’s student researchers are among the brightest, and the UPLIFT program is a way to invest in their growth.
